When you hear the phrase "hospitality industry" most people think of hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, and similar businesses. At Madison Lutheran Home, our Mission, Vision and Values are designed to offer our customers a "hospitable" reception and services. Madison Lutheran Home's Mission, Vision and Values are as follows.

MISSION STATEMENT

"Madison Lutheran Home, which includes the Madison Hospital, Lac qui Parle Clinic and subsidiaries, exists as a non-profit Christian organization called by God to affirm the worth of all people, to provide health care, residential and community service in a competent and caring manner."

VISION

"To provide health care services that exceed our customer's expectations."

SOCIAL WORKERS: Reaching Out,Touching Lives

Social Workers are usually the first contacts families make when they are inquiring about admission to the nursing home. These professionals help families work out the details, coordinate with physicians, make financial arrangements, and deal with a vast amount of information Therese Fernholz and Hope Beachem both long term employees have helped many families to decide what would be best for their relative in need of nursing home care.

Jill Wittnebel, LSW serves as the Social Worker for the Swing Bed program at the Madison Hospital. The swing bed program is used when a patient needs skilled care, such as rehabilitation prior to discharge. Jill is the Social Worker for the Hospice program for hospital and nursing home patients.

Social Workers are advocates for residents and patients and their families, looking out for their best interests in the maze of health rules and regulations.

These Social Workers demonstrate the vision of the hospital and nursing home "to provide health care services that exceed our customer's expectations." Call them at 320-598-7536 for more information.

The Dietary Department at the Madison Lutheran Home serves meals to Madison Hospital patients, Madison Lutheran Home residents, Hilltop Residence Assisted Living tenants, and the Meals on Wheels clients throughout Madison. The kitchen can accommodate a variety of physician prescribed diets.

The Madison Lutheran Home Activity Department staff recognizes that therapeutic and leisure activities are important for residential living in the nursing home setting. The daily schedule includes a variety of opportunities to socialize, enjoy musical entertainment, discuss current events, and participate in the ever popular bingo games. Volunteers of all ages from area churches and community organizations assist in special events and weekly activities as well, adding a welcome dimension to daily life for residents.

Hospice

Hospice is a concept of caring for a person in the last stages of a terminal illness. At the nursing home this means a resident and their family has access to the hospice team to provide physical, psychological, emotional, and social and spiritual support. This includes nurses, physicians, social workers, clergy, and volunteers. Hospice services help the individual and their family remain in control of the care that is given. The Hospice staff continue to provide support to the family during the entire bereavement process.

RESPITE CARE and DAY CARE: A TIME AWAY FOR CAREGIVERS

We pride ourselves on treating each resident as someone who is special to us. That is the message we aspire to convey to the residents, families, and visitors to Madison Lutheran Home. The respite and day care programs are customer support programs offered by the Madison Lutheran Home to alleviate the strain of continual care of an individuals or individuals by family members. It is a temporary solution to the question of "who will care for "Mom" while I am gone?" Family members who are the primary caregivers for a frail adult may need a break from care giving to have time away for themselves, to get other matters taken care of, or have a welcome rest.

We are a service organization. The hospitality of the Madison Lutheran Home is available on a flexible basis. Respite care programs includes meals, leisure activities, medication supervision or administration, an assigned room, and health care as needed for overnight stays. A respite resident must have a recent physical exam with a doctor prior to admission and generally stays less than 14 days. Adult day care is set up much the same way but without overnight stays. Respite or day care is often recommended by the health care practitioner to maintain the health of the sometimes exhausted caregiver. Both offer socialization opportunities for the adult with physical or cognitive impairments.

For more information regarding respite care, please contact either Therese Fernholz, LSW, Hope Beachem, LSW, or Jessie Berckes, DON, at the Madison Lutheran Home, 320-598-7536.
